Okay-I'm running Vista 32bit home version but I don't have the disk and I'm using a busines version of Vista to do a repair of the boot record. Well everytime I try to rebuild the boot record both auto or manually. it keeps booting with the \bood\bcd error. What I'd like to do is access the drive and backup my pictures and music and then just upgrade the drive by doing a fresh install of Windows 7. Can anyone please help me. I'd hate to lose all my data.

You can access the drive using either a live Linux distro, a free disk such as the Ultimate Boot CD, or by removing the drive and slaving it to another system. You can even use the command prompt section of the Recovery Tools to copy to an attached flash/USB drive.

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)
