You need a repair disc - if you have vista install dvd - you can use that - boot it and click Repair My Computer (bottom left on "Install Now window ).

If you don't have one of those - download it - the windows7 one will do fine - it is backward compatible with Vista

bottom of this page:

Download Repair Disc

Get the same bit version as the Vista you have installed.

Try a system restore to before the problem.

will it reset the whole computer ( i have a wireless card in it do i have to open the case and take it out or will the computer still have the soft ware for it

My Computer

the download is an .iso file.

It can burned directly to a cd-r (or dvd-r ) as an image.

Do not burn it as a data.

If you don't have the software to do that , use imgburn (free ) ImgBurn Free Download and Reviews - Fileforum

To use Imgburn , put a blank cd-r in the drive. Do not format it - if autoplay pops up - just close it.

Open imgburn, Click "Write Image File to Disc" - browse to the repair .iso you downloaded.

When you have done that - boot the cd on the pc that is in trouble.

Windows will load from the cd into memory and it runs from there.

It only contains Repair tools - not installation files.

It won't do anything to your programs or documents.

It is used to repair the startup files, or to run system restore when you can't get into Vista/7.

To "Boot" a cd /dvd :

Start the pc.

Watch the white writing on the black screen. It will say something like:

F2 for setup
F11 for boot menu

(Your F numbers may be different) Press whatever key it tells you for boot menu.

A menu will pop up.

Arrow down to cdrom drive. Put the cd in the drive and close the tray.

Press Enter. A few secs later it will ask "press any key to boot from cdrom drive". Press Enter again.

The contents of the cd will start loading into memory (ram).

Your installed version of Windows does not start - you are starting the program ( a small version of windows ) from the cd instead.

System Recovery Options

What you will get is similar to option 2 in the tutorial above.
