Hi,

Please help my laptop just won't boot any more.

Its a HP Compaq 6710b with 4gb of memory running Vista Business OWEMact.

The laptop was working perfectly up until this morning. Last night I let it go into sleep mode as i usually do. This morning i can down and just closed the laptop screen. Later I opened the lid and pressed the power button as normal to get to the login screen as normal.

The laptop seemed to be doing what it usually does and I walked away. After a few mins I returned and entered my password and hit <enter> At this point it appeared to be starting to load up as normal but it just never got to the desktop.

So, evenutally, not being able to do anything else, I pressed and held the power button to do a reboot.

Now, It refuses to boot all the way to the desktop.

When I press power on the "Microsoft Corportation" and green time bar is displayed, the wireless light comes on on the laptop, the disk light is flashing away. I then even get a mouse pointer which i can move. Then the screen goes black/blank, the disk light continues to flash for about 30 seconds and stops. Then nothing happens. I have waited for up to 30 mins and nothing happens.

I then booted the laptop and hit F8 and went to "Repair my Computer" and then "Startup Repair" and ran that. It reported that it couldn't find any problems.

I then tried to reboot the laptop again and still it won't boot.

I then went back to F8 and went for "Safe Mode with Networking". Again, this is refusing to take me to a desktop. It just hangs.

I then went back into F8 > "Repair My Computer and clicked on command prompt and ran chkdsk /f to see if there were any problems with the disk. It found a few and repaired them. I then tried booting vista again but it stopped at the same point.

Ive also tried System Restore, but I had that disabled.

The only thing I can think of is that I loaded the "Blackberry Desktop Software" yesterday onto it. All seemed to go well. After the install, it asked me to reboot. Later in the evening I uninstalled the Blackberry software but this time it DIDNT ask me to reboot.

Im just lost. - can anyone suggest what to try next?

Thanks for any help

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans (once you get into Windows) to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners (read the details at the link)
