Hi,
So this evening I tried to turn on my computer and got the following error message:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
Insert windows installation disk and restart
Choose language, click next
Click "Repair your computer"
Contact your administrator if this doesn't work, etc,
File: Windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys
status:0xc000e9
Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt
I did nothing risky on my computer yesterday (barely even checked email) and it was working fine then. I am totally confused.
So what are my options? I have tried starting in all the safe modes and nothing has worked. If I try "Repair", will it eat my files?
I have some important stuff due for work which I hadn't yet backed up (I'm on an automatic), so I am trying to avoid the whole Windows re-install. This is both urgent and extremely important that I fix this. I am not particularly knowledgeable about computers, but if someone explains what to do I can manage. It is an OEM which was originally purchased in May 2009 and re-installed due to a virus in March 2010. Thanks for any help you can give.
