Various program failures

I am a full-time student at ITT Technical Institute and need my computer working properly to complete assignments for school. I am not in the computer programming or networking degree programs.

I have been using Vista Home Premium for several years now without problems, and have recently had a string of program crashes and failures. None of them, with the exception of Word (Office Professional 2007), generate any sort of event log or error message. The two most consistent and important problems at this time are:

Clicking on any option under the "Save As" menu in Word crashes the program.

Clicking on "Save" in a dialog box in Internet Explorer closes the dialog box, does not save the desired file, and refreshes all active internet explorer windows.

Note that I have searched the Microsoft knowledge base, Microsoft user forums, and many other tech sites, and the advice they give (delete Word registry key, reinstall Office) has NOT solved this problem.

Welcome
May I present several suggestions which should be tried in the order given
Download and then upadate before you make a full scan
Update your Anti Virus and make a full scan
If these are negative
Try an SFC scan. If errors are found but do not solve the problem, run a few times.

If this does not solve the problem, try a system restore from 3 days before the problem began.

If none of these suggestions work, try in safe mode, for a test. If it works, the problem is probably software.

Make a clean boot to diagnose, if it works ok in safe mode.
