    Lock up

I have a asus machine that runs 64 bit vista and it has me stumped right now. At first when it loaded up, it would load up with no icons and then lock up so you couldnt get to the start bar and ctrl alt delete wouldnt work. I went into safe mode and rolled it back to about 1 month previous and started it back up. This time i had my icons roll up and some of the programs would start to load up but once loaded i cant click on anything as if it freezes but i can still move the mouse around and cntrl alt delete still wont work. So ive gone into safe mode and ran a virus scan and did a memory test and all came out fine. Can someone lead me into the right direction with what might be causing this

    Re: Lock up

    Welcome
If, as you said, you made a full scan with your anti virus
Downloand and make a full and updated scan with malwarebytes. Report back

Here are my solutions to freezing, and an excellent article, which I hope is of some help
Go to search type device manager and look for any yellow warning markers
Download and run malwarebytes, a full scan after you update
    Run antivirus scan
    Check memory with memtest86
Make sure that you are not over heating.
Try in safe mode; report back if it works properly.
    Try a clean boot
Make sure PSU is working properly
    If overclocking, restore to original
Test hard drive at company website.
Test in safe mode, does it still happen?
    Try with clean boot..

    Re: Lock up

i am running the malwarebytes right now. I had did the memory test which is built in on the bios and that came back fine also. Also safe mode works perfectly fine too. it is a laptop so i dont know how you can really check overheating evern though that ussually is a main problem with them but for the case it does seem to get hot at all.

    Re: Lock up

Use memtest, it takes a bit longer, but its accurate. Cant always say that for the built in test. We want to be sure when we say that it cant be a certain thing, because if wrong we will never find the cause. Good luck

    Test temps with this
SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer
If its ok in safe mode its a software problem. The malwarebytes is a good idea.

Go one step at a time, we will figure it out.
Freezing in safe mode is not good. Could be hardware.

    Re: Lock up

Try it agin. Make a note of where it locks up. Then try again. Lets see if its the same location.
