Solved P.C freezes at log on screen.

I would be grateful for your advice on what might be corrupt on my system to limit the amount of windows folders for restoring as my backup is a few months out of date.
My system was working OK until I removed some software which seemed to take a long time but completed, then I logged off and on start up next day it froze on the enter password screen.I have tried loading in safe mode and after about 40 minutes I get it to load. I have also tried loading from the last good session and loading the recovery disc I made and that displays unable to automatically correct system - I am thinking something has got corrupted on the software removal process.
When I have it booted in Safe mode can you advise what you would do to try and sort it out .

Since you can get into Safe Mode, you ought to be able to go to System Recovery and choose a restore point to before you uninstalled the software.

Thank you for your reply wither 3 I tried to use my recovery disc but it told me it was unable to automaticley correct the disc.
Whats was strange with so many freezes re-boots etc. the system ran a scan of the disc at boot time which I let complete - without error but when I ran chkdsk this time it repaired the Txflog\Tops file which then allowed me to boot up correctly.
