frozen desktop icons

    frozen desktop icons

    Hi
    i have the above on vista home.
    I have been through task master/process/application to remove/re-apply explorer.exe, which solves the problem til I open an icon again.
    I am not aware of any changes since this happenned 2 days ago.
    I do use avg free and am on vacation using a wireless huawei modem to connect to the internet .
    appreciate any help

    Not much info to go on - but try this:

    Download this free application: ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows
    Disable all non-Microsoft extensions
    Reboot to see if that helps (if not, don't forget to re-enable them).

    If it does, then disable them in groups of 5 or 10 until you find the offending group
    Then do that group one at a time until you find the offending extension.

    Uninstall the program related to that extension and (if you want to) install a freshly downloaded copy to regain that funcitonality.

    I just solved the problem by using system restore and using a 2 week old file.
