Hi everyone - well since April I've had many BSOD while playing games and it started with an update to Flash player 11.2 - I've since uninstalled it and even gone back to older gfx drivers but I'm still getting hit here.

running on Vista Home Premium X64
OEM version I think but have disk
OS is 3 years old and same with system as it was custom built for me

Any help would be great

Please zip up and upload the latest memory dumps from C:\Windows\Minidump.

Please uninstall SpyBot Search & Destroy TeaTimer - I've seen many problems with it in the past.

But the most noticeable issue is with Daemon Tools. It is known to cause BSOD's on Win7 systems (there is some question if this is applicable to Vista systems - try it to see if it's the case for you, if not, then reinstall it). Here's my canned speech on it:
Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please uninstall the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ

Some free alternatives (I don't use them, so I can't comment on them)
KernSafe iSCSI initiator, Virtual CD/DVD-RW Emulator, Virtual Encryption Disk and Virtual CD/DVD-ROM Emulator All-in-One free software.
MagicISO - Convert BIN to ISO, Create, Edit, Burn, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter/extractor/editor
nVidia System Overclock Utility may be causing problems (from my past experience). Please uninstall it.

Update JMicron RAID drivers.

Update mouse and keyboard drivers (Logitech SetPoint).
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=LMouFilt.Sys
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=LHidFilt.Sys

Older version of the copy protection program from Tages - I suggest that you uninstall that also.
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=atksgt.sys

Network Monitor 3 is also older and may be causing issues, please uninstall it.

If all of this doesn't fix things, then please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

My Computer

Added the minidump from BSOD I recieved after my post.

I've done everything down to "Network Monitor 3" the only thing I wasn't sure about was "nVidia System Overclock Utility" but assume it was Nvidia Performance install at any rate the only think left now is the drivers install.

I have some heavy alpha testing of a Game over the next couple of days so I'll let you know how things go.

Thank you for your Invaluable help on this matter it is Greatly appreciated :)

Ian

My Computer

Sorry it's taken a little while to get back to you - I haven't run Driver Verifier yet as my luck I wouldn't be able to get back into system and I need my comp running until next thursday so I'll run it then.

All these removals and updating has just made things worse now - the funny thing is when I 1st boot comp I get a BSOD if I try and play anything but after that BSOD and I reboot system I can run and play anything ???

Most of these are just loading and running Minecraft of all things but with any game it will BSOD within 15 seconds of loading up on the 1st boot.

Still not pointing to anything certain here. Driver Verifier will help us to narrow it down - even if it doesn't point out a particular driver.

These 4 drivers are older, I'd suggest replacing them (with newer versions) as soon as you can:
DrvAgent64.SYS Mon Dec 14 05:23:26 2009 (4B26121E) - Driver Agent from Phoenix Technologies

My Computer

o.k thanks I'll hunt those down - Now this PxHlpa64.sys I changed to PxHlpa64.Bak as suggested in the link above and it removed my dvd player from drive list all together on boot up ? - I have no dvd burner software on my computer at all now.

My Computer

System One

  • CPU
    Intel S1366 Core i7 950 3.06GHz Quad Core CPU
    Motherboard
    Gigabyte S1366 GA-EX58-EXTREME Motherboard
    Memory
    DDR3 6GB Corsair 1600MHz PC12800 RAM Kit X 2
    Graphics Card(s)
Gigabyte GTX 295 1792MB PCIe Video Card GTX295
    Sound Card
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Monitor(s) Displays
    26" Asus VK266H
    Screen Resolution
    1920X1200
    Hard Drives
800GB Western Digital AADS 32M SATA HDD
    PSU
    Antec Quattro 1000W Power Supply
    Case
Antec Nine Hundred Two Black Case (No PS)
    Keyboard
    Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
    Mouse
    Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
That's a common issue when doing that. If you need the DVD player, just re-rename it back and reboot.
Actually removing it is a real PITA, so let's leave it be for now.

My Computer

For future work on the PxHlpa64.sys driver, please run Autoruns and save the output as an .arn file
Then zip it up and upload it with your next post.

My Computer

Is it going to Advanced boot options once you start pressing F-8 after turning on the computer. Go To repair and then you can chose repair options

My Computer

Check if yur dvd drive is showing in device manager or not. If its showing then delete the upper and lower filter

Upper Filter
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Lower Filter
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This thing works 100% with no problem whatsoever
Reboot the computer once you delete filters and then see in my computer your dvd drive will be there
