I've been getting a BSOD since yesterday.

Upon looking over BlueScreenView it seems to be caused by volmgrx.sys which I guess is a volume control driver for Windows. They seem to happen about 15 minutes after I sign up and what not. Recently after doing a chkdsk /f and what not they seem to happen a lot quicker. I am currently running in Safe Mode with no problems at all, I also did a memory diagnostic test and got no errors upon completion.

-Info-
- x86 (32-bit)
- Vista (SP1, 64-bit as system in Control Panel stated which is odd...if my Program files(x86) means 32 then why is is coming up as 64bit?)
- OEM version
- About 4 years...maybe more, cleaned it out a few weeks ago.
- Came preinstalled, yet to reinstall or anything along those lines.

ANYWAY! Heres the two reports from BlueScreenView. I also use Kaspersky if it means anything.

-1st BSOD

I am very tempted to just throw out 100 bucks and get windows 7.

My Computer

Welcome
Dont spend the 100 bucks just yet.
Make a system retore point, in case of problems
Go to Kaspersky website and use the uninstall tool to uninstall
Replace with Microsoft Security Essentials
and
Malwarebytes, for a once a week scan.

Dont rely on Blue Screen.

Well I am unable to made a system restore in safe mode I guess or something.

As for malwarebytes...where exactly should I download it...and is it a service i'll have to pay for?

My Computer

The system restore is for your protection. When making changes, its good to be able to go back to the starting point if things go wrong, as they often do.

Malwarebytes is free (get the free version). Security Essentials is A-1 for catching virus and the like. Malwarebytes is one of the best for getting Malware.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

Based upon the reports you gave me, Kaspersky is the cause, but if you remove it you have no Anti Virus. That is why I am giving you good alternatives.

Yea I did noticed in blue screen view, the small window underneath did have a kl1.sys highlighted...which I thought for a second would mean only one thing...Kaspersky Lab. WELL i'll give it a shot.

I dont think I can uninstall it in safe mode though...which is a problem...seeing I hardly get enough time in normal mode.

My Computer

I use different software and it specifally mentiond Kaspersky. If it does not solve the problem, we can always reinstall it (easier with System Restore)

So basically the BSOD happens whenever kaspersky starts up right? So in theory I can run msconfig and stop it from booting up and then delete it until I figure something out...but atleast i'll have normal mode?

My Computer

The actual driver that causes the problem is kll.sys. I have seen situations where software was uninstalled and a problem driver remains and still causes problems. You can try your idea and see what happens; the best way is unistall, however.

Well it seems to be fixed now I believe, no BSOD so far. Granted at first I thought it was an audio problem...and decided to go to device manager and update drivers...not im stuck with I think...microsoft audio...instead of my realtek, which sucks.

Sounds like good news. You will like Malwarebytes and Security Essentials.
