BSOD IRQL error

Hi,

I just got the dreaded BSOD last night.

Vista boots up part way and then I get BSOD with IRQL something something. (IRQL not less or equal, IIRC)

OS: Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2.

Acer Aspire purchased February of 2008 I think. OEM install of Vista Home Premium. Currently has SP2.

Have not re-installed OS.

Just before the crash, I downloaded Picasa 3.9, edited some pics and then posted them to facebook.

Use Google Chrome as my web browser.

Perfmon would not run. It said it could not find the path specified.

Attached is the zip file.

Welcome
Your reports have given many clues, some leading in different directions. The most common clule points toward your Symantec AV.
Make a system restore point now, so we can go back if need be.. Then
go to the Symantec Website and get the uninstall tool.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/nor...34EN&lg=en&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1
Then uninstall symantec and in its place use Microsoft Security Essentials, at least as a test for now.
If that does not work, try ininstalling Picasa, lets see how that goes.

Uninstalling Picasa 3.9 didn't help.

I tried to uninstall Norton Antivirus. The Removal Tool insisted I had to use Add/Remove Programs to remove the Antivirus software. Using Add/Remove would not work in safe mode. I turned off the services using msconfig. Then I was able to boot normally.

I'm using MS Security Essentials for now. Don't know why Norton went crazy.

Thanks for the help!
