Hello, This is my first post here and Im hoping you guys can help me out. Im getting a BSOD on boot in normal mode, however when I boot it in safe mode it works just fine. THe BSOD error is:

A clock Interrup was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval

stop:0x00000101 (0x0000000000000018, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffffa6001ab5180, 0x0000000000000005)

Ive run antivirus/spyware software and didnt find anything wrong. Im at a bit of a loss as im not sure if it is some corupt driver somewhere that is causing the problem or what.

Running Vista home premium x64
graphics card: GTX 285
Processor: intel i7 2.66GHz

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

Thank you for uploading those files. Unfortunately, the fairly rare 0x101 BSOD cannot be diagnosed from those extremely limited minidumps.

The only way to have any chance of a proper diagnosis, and not just guess work, is for you to upload a copy of your large full memory dump.

Could you please, if the file exists, copy C:\Windows\Memory.dmp to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a new .zip file on your Desktop. Can you please upload this new .zip file to any file sharing website, for example File Dropper, and post a link to it here.

Depending on your internet speed, this could take a long time to upload. You may leave it to operate in the background, and use your computer to do other things. If you computer is too unstable to upload the file, it may be advisable to either upload it from another computer, or from Safe Mode with Networking.

I am sorry that I have to ask you to do this, but I feel that it is the only way.

Richard

I'm not real good with full memory dumps, so I'd suggest waiting on niemiro to analyze that one.
But, I do have some other suggestions in the meantime:

There's only 298 updates since SP2 - most Vista systems have 350 or more. Please check with Windows Update to ensure that you have ALL available updates.

MSINFO32 shows numerous STOP 0x117 errors. These are very similiar to STOP 0x116 errors - and we troubleshoot them in the same way. Here's a link to a description of the procedures (although written for Win7, the procedures are generally the same for Vista): STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting - Windows 7 Forums

We have seen problems with the following devices/programs. I suggest that you remove them to see if they are causing your problems:

1) Daemon Tools - used to be primarily a Win7 issue, but we're seeing more and more problems with Vista systems. Here's my canned speech for this program:
Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please uninstall the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ
2) Marvin Bus (part of Pinnacle Studios software) - this one dates from 2005. The older versions of Marvin Bus are known to cause BSOD's in some systems. Please uninstall the program and check to be sure that MarvinBus64.sys driver is removed from your system (search your system for it).

3) USB XBox controller - not as likely as the other errors, but it's older driver hasn't been updated and it may not play nicely with the current crop of Windows Updates. Please remove the software and then unplug the device from your system.

Also, please update these older drivers. If you can't find updates, please post back:

NOTE: Link may not be active yet as I have to add it to the table.
No additional info available, could you please let us know the exact make and model of your mouse so we can add it to the table also?

If the above steps don't stop the BSOD's, please zip up and upload any new memory dumps with your next post - and we'll see what we can figure out from there.

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

My Computer

here is the memory.dmp file.

MEMORY.zip

Thank you very much for uploading that file. I had a very long look, and ended up sending it to a colleague for a second opinion. We both agree that this is a very strange crash! There is one final possibility which I will be testing for now, though.

In the meantime, can you please follow usasma's excellent advice, as that actually covers everything I picked up (and a few more which I missed!). Hopefully that will get you sorted. I shall continue to investigate, however.
