I just recently added a new hard drive to my Dell XPS 420, and it worked until I shut down after the first boot. It will not boot into windows now. I ran startup repair and got this

problem event name: startuprepairV2
problem signature 1:Auto Failover
problem signature 2:6.0.6001.18000.6.0.6001.18000
problem signature 3:6
problem signature 4:589833
problem signature 5:BadDriver
problem signature 6:BadDriver
problem signature 7:0
problem signature 8:1
problem signature 9:System Restore
problem signature 10:0
OS Version 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

I get Stop Code 0x07b every time I try to boot. I've tried chkdsc :/f ,r but it hasn't helped. I've also ran all the dell diognositc tools, and it says there are bad sectors in the hard drive. Any help with this would be great.

Bad sectors on the hard drive mean that you must either:
- fix the bad sectors (with a tool from the hard drive manufacturer)
- replace the hard drive.

At work we don't even bother to fix the bad sectors - as they often won't stay "fixed" for very long. It's more reliable to replace the hard drive and start over. Also, repairing the bad sectors may render the system inoperable - so you'll most often have to reinstall Windows anyway.

Run the free hard drive diagnostic listed here: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
