Hey everyone,

I need some serious help here. I tried to turn on my laptop today (Hp Pavilion dv9700) and i got an error on a black screen with text "Operating System not found). I have tried booting from a windows vista disk with no luck. Also tried to use system recovery which also will not work. Im not sure what to do since i cant even boot from disk. I removed the hard drive just as protection because i need the data on it, but from what i have read is that the hard drive may be the problem and is dead, but im not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I actually ended up getting it working. I first ran a hard drive scan (took about 2.5 hours) to make sure my hard drive was alright. The test checked out, so i tried the boot disk again. I did change the boot order and put the disk drive at the top of the list. I slapped in the vista recovery disk and it didnt seem to work. I was about to give up after trying for the last time to boot the disk, and i ended up letting it sit there for about 10 min, and after i gave it the time, the disk started working. then i just recovered to a previous time and it was all good and working again.
