After trying the things mentioned in that post...and not having anything I cared about losing...I did a full recovery. It took a couple of tries but it did complete the recovery process.
The computer still freezes and only a hard restart will unfreeze it. The hard drive isn't spinning, so I don't think that's the issue. I have no idea what to do with this thing. Bad memory? The Windows memory check was negative for errors. Something else? At this point with a five year old computer, I'm not inclined to spend a lot to fix this. It has such light usage though...I hate to throw it away.
Care to share your thoughts? I'd be grateful.
