PC boots until black screen (no cursor) + StartupRepairV2

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 630, and I was running Vista 32bit Home Premium.

My problem is that when I start-up my computer there is initially white dots (in lines) that go horizontally across the Dell logo, then 4 sets of blue vertical lines flash up on the next black screen, next there is a completely fine windows loading screen (without artifacts), then I just get a black screen (with no cursor).

Some additional information, if at start-up I press F8 and go to "repair your computer", I have found the following things;

In start-up repair - I get an error log that states there is a problem "startupRepairV2", as well as "Problem Signature 05: Corruptvolume".

In system restore - it states I have no restore points.

I did manage to boot into safe mode once, however the next time I restarted, and since then, I have been unable to boot into safe mode. IIRC, the only thing I did while in safe mode was to set-up the chkdsk mode (on next set-up -which now comes up every time I start-up). The chkdsk did complete fully on one occasion and then just restarted at the end and went back to the black screen).

I could really do with being able to access the old files from this PC, as I have not backed-up recently. Does anyone think this may be possible?:confused:

I have no back-up/restore disks.

I think that is everything - if anyone needs to know anything else I will let them know,

Any help would be greatly appreciated :),

Thanks in advance!
