Black Screen of Death with Arrow

Im trying to help a coworker out, his Toshiba stopped booting, wouldn't even get to the opening windows icon. I have Windows 7 recovery disk so when I asked him what OS he had he said Windows 7, so I figured easy fix.

So I make a repair disk from my Windows 7 notebook, put it in his im able to boot and finally get to the system repair box. I choose System repair, 15 hours later it asks me to restart. So I restart and nothing is fixed. So I restart, F8 and get to the safe mode options screen, I have chosen each option and nothing ever happens. Screen stays black. So I restart once again and this time I try a system recovery from HDD. nothing disk error code. I try my recovery disk and nothing.

So I try something diff, I read on pc tech (I think) that ppl have been able to fix issues using Ubunto, so I download run it off a disk not fully installing it. Wont let me fix anything or check disk. So I tell my buddy I can get it to work by just installing Ubunto as the OS. He agrees. as I go to install Ubunto, it states I currently have Vista installed and if I am sure I want to replace it or partition it.

So his Toshiba has Vista NOT Win7. I tried downloading a safe copy of Vista sp2 iso but cant get that to burn to a dvd. I keep getting 80004005 error. I tried nero, Cyberlink Power DVD, ISO recorder, windows 7 usb/dvd download tool. NONE will burn the ISO. So I find another copy of Vista, but its in the WIM and EXE files and I cant figure out how to convert into an ISO file. I tried cdimage.exe but the vista file is too large to fit in my D: ROOT Drive.

ANY IDEAS? Really need help, I bit off more than I can chew and I really want to help this guy out, he has fallin on hard times and his daughter is the one that uses the notebook for school work.

Did you try IMGBurn? That's by far the best & easiest software I've ever used to burn an ISO to make a bootable disk. It's difficult helping people when they don't even know what system they are using, my sympathies.

No I have not tried IMGBurn, I will try that today. Thanks!

Anyone know what 80004005 error is for? I read something about not being authorized?

My Computer

That 80004005 error usually means something can't update. You are doing this in a user account that has Administrator status I trust?

No, Im fixing a coworkers laptop which has vista. My personal laptop has windows 7. My first post explains what is going on

IMGBurn wouldn't burn it either? No idea in that case. I could give you a download link for Vista SP2 but you would need your own key to activate it.

I can't send you a private message as you haven't qualified yet to have that turned on but if you post your email address (munged so bots can't pick it up as in xxxATyyyDOTcom ) I will email the download link(s) and then you can try burning using IMGBurn.

These are definitely genuine copies.

Do you want x86 or x64? I wont post the links because the storage facility's servers would get swamped when Google picks up the link.

The first email had broken links for which I apologise, they obviously don't take kindly to CCP'ing. I tested the second email after I sent it and the links worked. I still have my sent copy and they work fine.

I just resent them this morning. If those don't work for you it may be because of your cache. Clear cookies and try again.
