While running a system update laptop battery died. :(

(WinVista Home Premium x64)

I try to boot, windows "loads files" then I get the loading bar, this fails and the Startup Repair Tool starts.
And fails.
"Startup Repair cannot repair computer automatically" dialog box

2 options. One to view problem report:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairV2
Problem Signature 01: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6001.18000.6.0.6001.18000
Problem Signature 03: 6

Problem Signature 09: WrpRepair
Problem Signature 10: 10
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.2561
Local ID: 1033

and Advanced Options which gives me five options:

Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool
Command Prompt

Tried System Restore at least five times choosing different restore points each time but they always fail. Second problem report I am given:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairV2
Problem Signature 01: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6001.18000.6.0.6001.18000
Problem Signature 03: 6
Problem Signature 04: 983054
Problem Signature 05: corruptfile

Problem Signature 09: WrpRepair
Problem Signature 10: 10
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.2561
Local ID: 1033

Will not start in Safe Mode although I do have the option.
Reformatting is NOT an option (important files on HD)

I have tried using run chkdsk /r and sfc /scannow in Command Prompt but this is no help.

I need to know which files are corrupted so I can replace them if that is possible to know with the information I was given.

I can't find any help online for this problem. Someone please help!
At the very least if I'm not able to fix the problem I'll put the hard drive in a hard drive reader to backup the files then reformat the disc but this will be my last resort.

-Thank you for your time.

I can't help you fix it, but I highly suggest you get a copy of Ubuntu live disk and copy all your files to a usb drive/stick before you do any fixing.
