Post-Smartbar pup SFC issues again

Hi I had smartbar installed when firefox displayed a splash asking to install java and thus the program i dloaded installed 1000+ threats. I think after using multi adware removers i've completely removed it. I've even reset firefox.
However, i find sfc issues that the scanner cannot resolve.

If that does not work
You should d a repair install.

I would like to do a repair install. I have a hidden EISA partition with factory settings (and has SP1 installed). Can I save time by just beginning the procedure from this factory partition, by moving onto the sp1 cleanup then updating from sp1 to sp2...?

AKA can I just start from step 6 of this page - http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/230249-sliptream-vista-sp2.html)?

If you have a restoration partition, and you reinstall using the partition, your computer will be just like the day that you brought it home and you can do anything that can be done with a new computer.

Good so, I can create the sp2 slipstream disc using the repair partition from step 6 onwards, time saved.
I'm assuming this will not delete my files or folders? right? Otherwise is there a way to do this without losing settings and data?
How do I backup my windows configs like display schemes, start menu config, audio settings, etc?

I think that you will lose your stuff, back up everything first.
The way to back up your settings etc, I think, has passed. You should have backed up your hard drive, in good times, for this type of problem. Free software like Macrium Reflect would have done it for you.
Actually, I do not think that you can make a repair DVD with the restoration partition. That partition is just an image.
