Old HD not backing up completely, New HD not cloning...

Ok. My original 2006 500GB HD still works, but has failed the "funnel seek test" when assessed by Seatools (Seagate system diagnostic tool) and can not do a complete backup in Windows or any other program. I fear a crash every time I turn it on.

Got a new Seagate 1TB HD to replace the old one after cloning, but no dice once again.
I have the HP Vista recovery disks in a drawer. I'm thinking of re-installing the OS on the old HD, thinking then, the complete clone may work. Wondering how I would go about doing a complete backup of the HD in case things don't go as planned.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Acronis Migrate Easy (trial)-- After many hours, eventually was unsuccessful. Many sessions with Acronis chat staff.

Macrium reflect - After many hours, it finally said something to the effect of: clone unsuccessful - broken pipe

Okay, they are both great programs.

I'd just use the disks to re-install on your new drive and make everything new and fresh.

Ok. So support from Acronis (excellent, BTW) is having me get the stuff on my new drive by doing recovery, etc...

Once I accomplish this, I assume I can install the new OS on the new HD via the CDs???
