Mystery Drive

Don't ask me how this happened because I haven't the faintest idea. I don't know if it was something I unknowingly did or if it happened spontaneously but I'd like advice on how to correct the problem.

Yesterday a floppy drive/driver mysteriously appeared on my system, even though there's really no floppy there. And though I've gone to device manager and "uninstalled" the uninvited guest, it reappears every time I boot.

So far, the "floppy" drive/driver doesn't appear to have adversely affected the operation of my machine except that every time I boot, I get an error message that the system cannot find the "drive" and I must hit F1 to continue. Is there any way to correct this problem and return to the factory settings without doing another installation of the OS?

Hi sooner,
It sounds like the BIOS was told to enable the 1.44 Floppy drive which will tell Windows to assume you have one. And/Or the FDD controller got enabled. When you turn your PC on try pressing F1 or F2 or F10 or Del to get into the BIOS (before windows starts loading) and you can turn off the 1.44 floppy to "disable" then save changes/exit the BIOS. Let Windows boot normally and this should take away the icon for a floppy in Windows.

Thanks, Raj....I'll try your solution. In the BIOS, will the floppy drive be labeled as such?
