Vista recognises devices then does not display them in my computer

When I insert a USB device, most of the time Vista will ask to search for the drivers but will not find it. Find the drivers or not, it will then not allow me to use the device.

In particular the Flash Card reader on the from of the Toshiba Satellite would not display anything in My Computer.

Any suggestions would be great.

My Computer

Hi Libby,
If you go to Start > My Computer, how many drive letters do you have? C: D: E: F: G:?? Reason I ask is because what I have seen in the past with XP was if you plug in a thumb drive, Windows wants to use the next drive letter for you to access the thumb drive BUT if the next letter is already in use then no drive letter would show up for the thumb drive. Not sure how Vista handles this now. I think on the drive letters for the card reader can be changed to like W/X/Y/Z which will free up E/F/G/H/ so the thumb drive can use it.
