Problems with VISTA x64 Installation

Hello, i am from Venezuela, so sorry for my english.
i've had some problems trying to install windows vista x64.
the problem is this: the cd boots and it load some libraries, so it works fine but when it is beggining the instalation, it says that "i have no drivers for the CD/DVD Rom device", so it says that if i have them in a pen drive (USB removable Device) or even in a CD, i can open the CD rom, change the Vista X64 cd, and put the drivers cd into de CD rom, and then it will work.

the problem is that i have the lite-on dual layer rewritable device, which serial model is : SOHW-1693S, so i dont know if i have to download them and put them into a pendrive, to use it later in the installation, or if i have to download SPECIAL VISTA DRIVERS for this device.

however, it would be very helpfull if anyone can solve my problem, because i've been trapped here 2 days, and i havent checked if my new SATA II 500 GB Device works with no problem.

(by the way, yes, this is A CLEAN INSTALLATION, because the hard drive is virgen, i installed it for the first time 2 days ago.)

thanx to everyone that can help me! :(

hola sigmas,

first thing i would do is update the firmware in the cd drive. you can get the latest here: http://www.liteonamericas.com/twnmain/DOWNLOADS/ODD/SOHW-1693S/firmware/DR16KS0B.zip

you will need a working computer to do this.

there should not be any cd drivers needed, because all recent drives conform to the ATAPI standard - so I am a little surprised by the error. You often have to install SATA drivers for the hard drive which you put on the USB pen drive.

you should also update the BIOS on your motherboard.

hope this is helpful, good luck!

Hola geezer10
Very thanks for your help.
actually i solved the problem, i'm a kinda newbie on this, and the problem really was that i had in my BIOS config, the SATA mode activated, not IDE, so, it makes VISTA 64 Jump with that error.

when i checked that out, i solved changing it to IDE mode, and then when i reboot the PC, it worked out very fine and installed complete VISTA 64.

anyway, very thanx, i will be around for helping other guys (if i can ;) )

I have the same problem when I try to install vista premium 64bit. my dvd-rw is asus drw2014L1T. Have updated to latest firmware and cannot find any appropriate drives that vista accepts, the answer above did not work for me. I haven't got any help from asus, tried to contact them, and also I see that a lot of people have the same problem with my drive as I have.
Is there any general availble patch/drive/something that I could use instead? Is there any help or should I just throw my newly bought copy of windows vista down the waste?

Yaxo I had a lot of trouble installing Vista x64 on my new Rig the only way I could install it was to switch back in BIOS to HDD IDE mode. Since I did not want to loose the new Performance you can get with SATA HDD, after installing I switch back to SATA AHCI Mode. This takes a work arround that you can find here Error message when you start a Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive: "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE"
And make sure to install AHCI Drivers from your MoBo installation disc while you are in Vista under IDE Mode before rebooting.
Change BIOS HDD mode to AHCI and after Vista starts you should see some software recognizing the HDD and DVD Writer as new Hardware and ran somekind of application to prepare the HDDs for new mode. Also while I was in Vista IDE Mode I update the Firmware of my DVD Writer. I do not know if that could help you but better open my mouth than keeping it for me !

YOU HAVE A SATA OPTICAL DRIVE. THE SAME X64 VISTA DRIVER FOR YOUR SATA/RAID CONTROLLER IS THE ONE YOU NEED FOR YOUR OPTICAL CD/DVD DRIVE.
IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT DRIVER YOU NEED, DETERMINE YOUR CHIPSET/MOTHERBOARD AND GOOGLE FOR THE SATA DRIVER. BE SURE TO EXTRACT JUST THE X64 DRIVER FOLDER CONTENTS TO USB/FLOPPY- NOT THE WHOLE SATA PACKAGE OR DRIVER FOLDER-

Vista doesnt pre-install SATA drivers, so it cannot install the drivers for your sata optical drive. Some o/s disks have the sata driver slipstreamed onto the OEM o/s disk, but since most do not support vista x64, the x64 disk will not include the cd/dvd optical drive driver (driver is the same as the ones used for sata/raid). find out what your storage/raid controller driver is and copy the contents of the x64 driver folder onto either a floppy or usb thumb drive. when reinstalling, and the window for cd/dvd driver not found appears, browse to the drivers on the floppy/thumb drive, and install. you will have to repeat this for your SATA hard disk drive in order for windows to find it.
