Monitor Drivers? X64 Display Resolution Issue

Ok, first off, I'm new here so hi everyone. :) Seems like a great forum for technical help and discussion, and looks pretty

I've googled, and searched this forum for a fix to my problem but haven't found one so far, so hopfully you guys can help.

A few months ago I got a second hand monitor from a friend, to replace my CRT because I was getting headaches when working. It was cheap (£10) because it's fairly outdated and had a dead pixel, but it was worth it to get rid of the headaches. At the time I was running Vista x86 and I plugged the monitor in and its maximum selectable resolution was only 1024x768, rather than the 1280x1024 that it was meant to be. I couldn't find a fix for this, but managed to work around this by updating the drivers and selecting the "Generic 1280x1024 Flat Screen" in the list of drivers in Vista. This brought the correct resolutions to the list and the issue was solved.

I then had the same issue in Windows XP (x86) and used the same work around, which again fixed the issues. However last week I done an upgrade and purchased Vista x64 and am having the same issue once again. But this time, selecting the drivers in the list does not update the resolutions I can select and I am stuck with 1024x768, which isn't a good enough resolution for the 3D Modeling and Texture working I am trying to do. Deselecting the tick box "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" simply updates the refresh rate box, but not the resolution box oddly. No matter which driver is selected in the list, the list of resolutions is not updated to what the monitor can actually achieve.

The monitor is a Hanton Digimate L-1715. I have contacted the company, but received no reply. I have searched for drivers but cannot locate any (for any OS). I have tried a range of nVidia drivers for my graphics card (7900GTX), however none have worked so I have went back to the newest available set.

I should also note here that I am using a dual monitor setup, with the LCD as my primary display (the one I am having issues with) and a Dell E771a CRT as my secondary. The Dell monitor has no issues.

Does anyone know where I can get software for this, or even just a work around so I can select the correct resolution. Thank you in advance for any help. :)

What you are experiencing is lovingly referred to as the Microsoft-gotcha.

Vista 64 requires a signed driver. At this time I have not found a work-around.

Maybe someone else has.

ALL drivers for Vista 64 must be signed.

There should be a "Digital Flat Pannel (1280x1024)" driver available. If not... I dunno.

Tried it, unfortunately it doesn't allow the 1280x1024 option to be used.

I also tried 2 applications to enter the resolution manually, but neither worked.

Given my monitor now is useless and gaming performance is pathetic at best I am quite disappointed with my short experience with this OS.

But not disappointed in your monitor manufacturer for not supporting their own device, nor disappointed in yourself for purchasing an off-brand monitor?

Aaah, the convenience of blaming Microsoft for everything.

I blamed Microsoft for everything? On the contrary sir, I have defended Microsoft against many a fanboy who has blamed them and attacked them over Vista issues. I have put up with hundreds of XP fanboys who claimed Vista is junk and unable to give a valid reason. I have run Vista X82 before and thought it was outstanding, is it unreasonable to suggest I should not be disappointed when I get a massive performance decrease because of it? Let us remember that driver signing caused the monitor issue as I can use it fine in X82. And let us note that I did not blame Microsoft here, but somebody else DID.

So I suggest you do not make blind assumptions in the future, especially against someone you have not spoken with before. Some people would be far less polite in informing you of your mistake.

Ahhh, the convenience of attacking a newbie.

I refer not to your perfomance issues, of which I have no commented at all, but entirely to your problems with your off-brand monitor that you're unable to make work.

And before you go calling someone a 'newb', you might want to check "X82" (*cough* x86 *cough*) and remember: You're the one that bought some old, off-brand monitor second-hand and expected it to work just fine and then blamed MS about it. Seems you've joined the fanboys.

Newb.

Man, is this how all newbies are treated on this forum? Poor twisting of words just to attack people for not being 100% positive on Windows Vista? I said I was disappointed. At NO point did I blame Microsoft for this (and as I already pointed out, somebody else did) and never would have. For you to come in and attack me just for the sheer hell of it is completely unacceptable for any such forum.

I am disappointed. Get over it and get over yourself. I never blamed Microsoft, I have no plans on blaming Microsoft and I fail to see the issue you have, other than your grasping at straws and poor understanding of either my posts simply to get your opinion in.

You really are a welcoming lot. Next time I have an issue I'll be sure to add a disclaimer at the bottom declaring Bill Gates god. No doubt I will receive a smart-ass reply to this, but do not expect a reply from me. Argue with yourself.

To the people who helped - thank you for your help and making sure that the problem was correctly identified. You have been very helpful. :)
