Asus drw-2014l1t DVD not working

I just got a new asus drw-2014l1t DVD writer (SATA) and installed it in to my Vista box. Windows did its found new hardware thing and then said there is an error installing new hardware. I have no drive for the DVD and the device manager shows that a driver is needed, even though windows used the cdrom.sys driver. I can't seem to find a driver and nothing I have tried seems to work. Anyone know how to fix this or has the driver?

Re: Asus drw-2014l1t DVD not working

I had the same problem with that DVD, but got it to work. I had to use drivers for silicon sata and then it worked. BUT, I do not remember which version of the SATA drives I used, tried several versions before it worked and I think that the latest drivers did not work. Try to look att your MB's website for drivers

Thanks for the answer, it did not work. I loaded another hard disk with XP and every issue I had went away. , guess I'll just keep trying and use my Xp for the day to day stuff.

Hi jtracey!

im new to this forum....so hi to all of u guys....

i had this problem some time ago with my notebook. i managed to fix it with a small Registry patch. ill include the steps below...

1. go to Device manager by typing "devmgmt.msc" in the RUN command (WinKey+R) or by typing at the quick search in the start menu.

2. right click on the dvdrw device and select uninstall.

3. after it has uninstalled run the patch and click ok when it asks to add information to the registry

4. now go to the device manager and click "scan for hardware changes"

5. the OS should find the dvdrw as a new device and install successfully.

tell me either it works or not.... hope this can help ur problem...

Re: Asus drw-2014l1t DVD not working

Hello, I am having problems with this same drive. I actually got it like 3 or 4 months ago, couldnt get it to work, and got so frustrated with it that I stopped trying. So Im here trying again. To the point ->

Driver seems to be working, running on Vista Premium 32 bit.

Device does not recognize Discs inserted. No matter what Disc I put in it (blank/written/DVD/CD) it just wont recognize that there is a Disc in the drive. Not sure what the problem is, could this just be a bad unit? Please help me if you can think of a solution!
