| Vista Ultimate x64 | Vistax64 w/ HP Laserjet 1000... anyone get this to work? Like the title says, I am trying to run an HP Laserjet 1000 on my 64-bit Vista, and haven't had any luck with it so far. An earlier post asked for help with a HP 1010 and I tried those methods and no luck there either. Basically I'm looking for confirmation that my printer has been rendered useless, haha. Thanks for your time. |

Thanks for your time. HP used to mean Hewlett Packard, but since Vista was relased, it should be renamed to Horribly Pathetic. They'd prefer you buy a new printer before they provide Vista drivers for their products. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Vistax64 w/ HP Laserjet 1000... anyone get this to work? Thanks Dzomlija, I had a feeling, but just needed some confirmation. I must say that, being an owner of HP: desktops(2) , a laptop, 2 printers, and a digital camera, that this is quite disappointing. I hope the risk of losing long-time customers is worth the reward of getting a couple extra printer sales. What are some brands worth following these days? Dell, Sony, any suggestions? |

I've since moved over to Canon, who provide some remarkable tech support when there are questions. As far as computers are concerned, I build my own desktops, so I can't make any recommendations one way or another. Laptops? I've always been partial for Toshiba. |

| | Re: Vistax64 w/ HP Laserjet 1000... anyone get this to work? Have you looked at Download HP Universal Print Driver PCL5 4.1 Windows XP x64/2003 x64/Vista x64 This is for PCL5 PCL6 and postscript. Icould not see mention of the Laserjet 1000. But it does not mention the 5L which I have and installed using this driver. Does not work yet but i think that is a lead fault. Any help. SteveM |

| Vista x64 | Re: Vistax64 w/ HP Laserjet 1000... anyone get this to work? I tried both versions of the Universal Print Driver (new version 4.7) but they did not work. I also tried other remedies seen elsewhere: installing the 1000 drivers and ignoring error messages, trying drivers for the 5P and 6P, etc. Nothing works. Imagine building a piece of hardware that still works after 4 years and not supporting it. What a load of junk. They still support the printer I had before the 1000 (the LaserJet 5L). What sense does that make? Some have suggested new printers are not so expensive. Well, most printers out there are inkjet and the cost is in the ink. My laserjet cartridges last about 2 years and cost $60. That must be why HP is discontinuing the printer. It works and doesn't cost users hundreds of dollars a year to operate. So my new HP computer with Vista 64 bit now just cost me another $150-300 for a new printer. What a racket. Last edited by druekberg; 01-13-2009 at 09:03 AM.. Reason: add information |
