nForce driver problem: no more boot

I tried updating the driver of my nForce motherboard (Asus Striker Extreme) to the latest version available from Nvidia (9.99.09, 9.64 package). After this, my system won't boot anymore. Everything seems okay during POST, but when the green process indicator of Vista appears this stays on the screen indeffinately. A few seconds after the indicator appears, all disk activity ceases. It seems like Vista doen't recognize my disks anymore (Vista is installed on a mirrored array of two disks. The array is healthy according to the POST). The process indicator keeps running, but nothing hapens. I tried using a restore point to return to a point before the driver update, but this also does not work. The repair does not show my Vista installation. When I browse for additional drivers, I am able to browse the Vista-disk without any problems. When I try to add the (older) drivers, this results in a BSOD with 0x0000007E. No driver is mentioned in the BSOD. I tried the command line version of the repair. This showed the restore points that are available and it even could apply one. This took a whole night, and then the status was still "finalizing repair". I decided to reboot at that time, with the same result as before: no more disk activity and a ever running process indicator.

Re: nForce driver problem: no more boot

Although I agree that it is important for drivers to be kept up to date, there is, in my mind, an exception to this rule. Motherboard drivers are fundamental to the smooth operation of your system and are best installed during the initial installation of Vista. It is possible that the updated driver you installed doesn't understand RAID (there are different versions of drivers available for RAID and non-RAID systems). I am still using the same motherboard driver that I used when I first installed Vista originally (I reinstalled Vista at the beginning of January this year, but am still using the same driver as I have had no problems with it).

Try booting into safe mode and as Dwarf said, reinstall your drivers from disk. If you look on this website you will see alot of post where people have updated drivers from MS to find there gfx, sound and other devices have stopped working.
