Try to update the driver through the web. Check the cables.
Have you got iTunes installed?

Hello Friend.

I just saw your message and wanted to post the resolution for it.

Plesae open the below link and update the CD/DVD drive firmware and everything will be working fine.
This firmware fixed 2 issues.

1. Fixed the iTunes issue with "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (2131) when you tried to burn playlist to disc for blank CD-R media.
2. Fixed the region code error for DVD movie playback.

Thnx, enjoy.

The driver that this link is for is for the 632H drive not the 632D drive, the correct link is below.

This may not fix your problem.

Hi

First thing to always do to remedy a problem like this is to uninstall and then reinstall the device. Doing this in Safe Mode is sometimes better but you can do it in regular Windows first to see if it works.
Enter Device Mgr and the properties for this device, then if it has the option to "Uninstall" the device on th driver tab still, use that first.
Power down the machine and physically unplug this device from your computer. Reboot into Windows without the unit hooked up, this will allow windows to register that the device is no longer installed. Power down and hook the device back up, reboot and allow Windows to detect it and install it once more.
This will fix this type of problem 99% of the time.

I am experiencing the same problem. I went into the device manager and it said it was all updated but could not load the software. I haven't used my cd/dvd driver for awhile so I'm not sure when this happened but I did recently install the recommended service pack 1 for windows vista. How do I fix this for a laptop? Sorry to repeat pretty much the same question but I'm a noob when it comes to fixing computer things

Thnx for the message.

I just need to know the exact name of the drive in the Device manager so that I can give you the direct link to download the software update for the drive. that should take care of the issue.

Thnx Ricky

My Computer

the name is the same as the thread title. that's how i found this, by googling TSST corp DVD +- RW TS-L632D ATA Device
you are the best for knowing how to fix this!!

My Computer

Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
i'm not sure what you mean by system model haha but my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6400 (does that help?)

Cool thnx for the info.

Here is the link to install the Drive firmware.

http://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/DE04-2.zip

Make sure you remove any CD or DVD from the drive before installing this firmware update.

After extracting all the files to Desktop, run the file SFDNWIN3.27.11.exe

And then click on the left most button at the top of smaill firmware window and after selecting the firmware file that is: DE04.BIN
click on the second button from left to update the firmware.
Restart the computer after that update and issue should be fixed.

Thanx
Ricky
