Vista - shot in the dark

Vista Home Premium 64-bit

shot in the dark

Just gonna throw this out there and see what happens. I have a HP Pavilion
dv9832us notebook/laptop with Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. All good and well until I bought a M-Audio MIDISPORT UNO USB-MIDI interface patch cable in order to allow me to feed my Fender G-DEC 30 guitar amp directly into the HP via the interface cable. Thus allowing me the ease and simplicity of editing, mixing and generally making the world a better place with my homespun music in vast amounts of audio files all tenderly modified with any of a great number of virtual studios available. Sounds easy enough.......except, no drivers for the interface that work in a 64-bit environment. It works great on 32-bit, and I got the dang thing for 60% off. So, my options are REPLACE 1 of the "state-of-the-art" high-end pieces of the puzzle, as Microsoft, HP & M-Audio all seem to be dragging their collective feet on the matter. Funny too, as I was considering buying a low-end desktop(32-bit) just for music, and suddenly the big movers and volume dealers are already stocking up the 64-bit PC's. In a month or two you won't even be able to get such a system. So, if anyone has any suggestions, I will be very appreciative.

Thanx
Later

Re: shot in the dark

Hi, Lucky Rodgers, and welcome to the forums.

As soon as I saw M-Audio I knew what you were gonna say - and unfortunately, I have not seen even a hacked out 64bit compliant driver for their stuff.

***but*** you might hold tight - there have been a rash of articles and blogs about how x64 is the new wave of the future and I bet within 1-2 months you see a major increase in x64 versions of Vista - and that means that that many more people are gonna be complaining about legacy hardware and 64bit support. Just like me.

Re: shot in the dark

Thanx, good to know there is at least someone out there....lol. Hey, I came across a "generic" Yamaha driver that is supposed to work for their MIDI-USB
interface on a 64-bit platform. I downloaded it, but it is just sitting there while
I gather up the "fortitude" to give it a go. It has been the ONLY thing even
remotely close to what I'm looking for. Most of the poor guys out there are either
battling upgrade problems or still locked into their XP deals..........so, I imagine that a little patience are in order....
damnit!!! LOL

Thanx again and we'll holler at ya later

Lol yeah.

Good luck with getting that thing up and running in Vista x64 - and if you do find a solution, be sure to post back here as well.

We'd appreciate it.
