Major Vista Fresh Install Problems

Hi everyone!

I'm new to these forums and I really need help with vista. I have had no trouble instaling it in the past. But all of a sudden one day I chose to freshly install vista. So using the standard installation procedures and when I went to install my netgear usb wireless adapter Which used to work failed to install. I thought it was the adapter so I upgraded to a very nice d-link usb adapter...and that too failed to install. So I installed a fresh copy of so on he same drive and reformatted it and that worked just fine. So I tried reinstalling vista and of course it didn't work. So now I'm really confused and typing this on the only available Internet device which happens to be an iPod touch LOL. Does anyone have an idea as to what is going wrong? Btw I have an oem copy of vista ultimate x64 pre sp1. The netgear adapter was the wusb111 and the d-link adapter is the dwa 160.

I am very desparate!

Re: Major Vista Fresh Install Problems

Hi, 737Best, and welcome to the forums.

A couple of questions: Have you downloaded the 64bit versions of the drivers for either of those NICs?

And by

fresh copy of so on he same drive
did you mean XP?

If so, is it XP 32bit or XP 64?

Have you always been installing Vista Ultimate x64? or was it Vista Ultimate 32bit before and now it is not working with X64?

Ah sorry, the iPod "corrected me"

The copy of windows xp I have is MCE, so it's 32 bit. However windows Vista is and has always been Vista Ultimate x64

Re: Major Vista Fresh Install Problems

OK, with Vista, are you sure you are using the Vista x64 drivers?

Re: Major Vista Fresh Install Problems

I am positive I'm using x64 drivers. My Mobo came with a disk, but only for 32 bit (i know they have x64 through an online update). Besides, I don't think the Mobo USB drivers are the issue because my USB mouse is working. The D-Link Adapter I am trying to install has x64 adapters

Re: Major Vista Fresh Install Problems

OK, you do know that there are 2 revisions of the D-Link DWA-160 USB Wireless Adapter, right?

http://support.dlink.com/products/vi...ductid=DWA-160

http://support.dlink.com/products/vi...d=DWA-160_revB

Did you use the *right* one?

BTW, I checked the LinkSys website at Linksys.com - Support/Technical Support/Linksys Windows Vista Support/Download Vista Drivers and do not see your original USB adapter working in Vista at all...according to that site....

But the D-Link should work just fine, as long as you get the *correct* drivers.
