Why do I have 2 floppy drives showing?

I have a system running 32-bit Home Premium and noticed that when I open "My Computer" it shows two floppy drives - A: and B: - even though my system only has one floppy drive (and there's only one showing in BIOS setup). I tried uninstalling drive B:, but the next time I booted, it was reinstalled. I then tried uninstalling both floppies -- when I rebooted, the system promptly reinstalled A: and B:.
Any suggestions on how to correct this? It's not a critical problem, since I have only used my floppy to boot hard drive diagnostics, but it is becoming a major irritant.

OMG! You found B:!!! Nobody has seen B in 2 decades.

Seriously, I'm not sure how to help? B is a legacy thing that was before my time. Were you tooling around in the bios recently?

His computer is having flashbacks from 15 yrs ago....If I remember correctly, the A and B assignments were determined by the floppy cable.

I haven't touched the BIOS since I performed a flash update that was recommended by the mainboard mfr (microstar) to correct some original Vista problems. I haven't been paying attention to the floppy part of the drive list, so I'm unsure when the B: drive first appeared - for all I know, it could have been there since my original upgrade from Win2K, (which was an absolute horror - I must have spent a week on the phone with Vista support before it was working properly.) In any case, it's comforting (I think) that I'm not the only one who is mystified!
PS: I notice that this Forum on drivers has the subheading "Vista x64 Driver help & discussion" Does this mean I shouldn't have posted my 32-bit query here? If so, my apologies, and please direct me to the correct venue.

it is due to your bios update. same thing (kinda) happened to me when i flashed my bios. when you flashed your bios, you loaded a bios that has defaults settings applied. after the flash i performed, i had to go back into the bios and reset all of the settings to where i had them set before the flash. why yours chose to show the b floppy is unclear, but you will have to go into bios to set the drive as not used.
