i need help in dreaded blue screen with stop: 0x0000007E error

i need some help guys, i'm running a vista home basic on my newly purchased acer desktop, when the dreaded blue screen appears with stop: 0x0000007E error on the screen. I tried all the help i can get through forums and self-help but to no avail. i tried system restore and the last known good configuration in safe mode but everytime i restart and as i enter my password on the computer the welcome screen takes forever to load. i can't seem to access anything from my computer, i cannot input anything that will solve the problem because the welcome screen just hangs in there. please help!

Re: i need help in dreaded blue screen with stop: 0x0000007E error

my unit is an acer aspire M1641

i got this message as the blue screen appears:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you’ve seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x8699C862, 0x00000002, 0x00000008, 0x8699C862)

Re: i need help in dreaded blue screen with stop: 0x0000007E error

I too am getting the blue screen with the flowing system memo:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 116
BCP1: 866C1418
BCP2: 8E0F3590
BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 0000000D
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini091808-01.dmp
C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-84412-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp\WERB125.tmp.version.txt

This is on a Fijitsu Laptop. N6470-112C2DT5550 which Fry's gave me as a loaner while they repair my Fujitsu A N6460-C2D T5250. Both run Vista 32 bit home premium.

Both units have the same problem so it is probably the ATI driver and/video card and not the laptop itself. With my original puter i was getting the stretched desktop message before the screen would blank otu the then the screen would go blank and I would have to restart witht he power off button. The newer one gooes to the blue scfreen but both are caused by a failure of the ATIKMAD. Of course, ATI denies any responsibilty for the issue.
Has anypone gotten this isuue resolved successfully. KNow I have not and have the same issue with two different units, back to back. Nasty problen. Does not happen if I do not run a second Monitor but I need to do that.

Re: i need help in dreaded blue screen with stop: 0x0000007E error

Steadyjohn, you could best start your own topic as your blue screen has nothing to do with that of the topic owner (the main hexadecimal number is different), we can't handle two persons at a time to avoid confusion.

Re: i need help in dreaded blue screen with stop: 0x0000007E error

This error occurs when a driver uses an incorrect memory address. Other possible causes of this error are an incompatible device driver, a general hardware problem, and incompatible software.

Re: i need help in dreaded blue screen with stop: 0x0000007E error

Look for other hardware issues. Remove any newly installed Hardware. Remove all adapters and disconnect all hardware devices that are not required to start the computer.
Examine third-party software or drivers.
Boot the system using windows vista dvd, click Repair Your Computer, and then select Start up Repair.
Download windows debugging tool from : http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/s..._6.9.3.113.msi
open the tool and press Ctrl+D to generate a crash dump report and look for the exact cause of the blue screen(caused by driver).
Reinstall vista.
