Hi chhalani and welcome to the forums

First of all, please do not double-post. That said, I have had a look at the HP website and it states that there will be no support for that model in Vista. However, there is support for the laser jet 1020. This looks very much similar to the 1010 model (the only difference that I can see is the actual colour of the printer) and it might be worth trying those drivers - don't forget to create a System Restore point before hand. I don't offer any guarantee that this will work, but you have nothing to lose. I suggest that you save the downloads before you try to install the drivers.

Hi chhalani,

No problem. Have you tried what I suggested, and, if so, what was the outcome?

Hi stormin,
Thx a lot for that tip, it just worked right away using vista's preinstalled driver "laserjet 2100 PCL5"
Been struggling with my laserjet1010 for a year now with mixed result. Had it working for a while with another preinstalled driver and then it died on me...with some strange error code printing blank pp.. Hope this one will last...
Shame on HP not providing a vista 64 driver for this printer, especially since it is "plug and play" with perfect results in Ubuntu 64bit

Glad to help, this thread seemed to have become stagnant fore a while for some reason. I agree that the 1010 is a great printer with very cheap running costs, buying new hardware isn't a cure, it's an admission of defeat ;), stick with it, M

I can see that this is a bit of an old thread but maybe you can help me. I also have a lj1012. I love it and hate HP for not supporting it. I have tried a couple of fixes I have seen on the forums, using lj1015 drivers, using lj2100 PL5 drivers, using the WinPrint print processor with RAW data type. All of them work to with a varying degree of success from the local Vista 64bit machine. The problem comes from trying to install the network host printer on a WindowsXP machine. I have several of these with no plans to upgrade. I cannot find a suitable driver for any of these solutions. There has got to be a way! but I have been pulling my hair out trying find a solution. BTW, the only Port I can install it on is a DOT 4 port. Is this right?

:geek: Sorry for the delay in this reply, a tad busy of late! Right, I'm not familiar with the lj2100 so bear with me. Your XP system should see the printer on the server as a network device, if that's what you're trying to do??

If the printer is running from a Vista  machine then you need to remove it and set it up on it's own print server. I use a Lynksys wireless print server to achieve this but you could just CAT5 it. Set the printer up on your XP machine as above (network printer with standard driver) and then use he PL5 driver to trick Vista via your network. Hey presto, printing possible!

FYI :sarc: DOT 4 port is a virtual port installed as default by HP drivers, to bypass it you need to use PL drivers. Similar info thread here
At some point in time the lj2100 will reach its life end, I'd be tempted to get a budget in place for that event, maybe it's nearer than you think?
Hope this helps ;)
