Logitech MX500 under Vista x64?

Anyone happen to still be using a Logitech MX500? Before I start looking for a new mouse, I'd like to know if the "Cruise" functionality works without Mouseware (which isn't supported under Vista). Setpoint doesn't support this device AFAIK.

I know that there are other ways to "fast scroll" around, but none of them offer the same speed of scrolling or ease-of-use.

As far as Setpoint goes there is a very good chance that it will work with your mouse. It works just fine with my MX-510 which isn't officially supported, so I don't see why it won't work with your MX-500. Only reason I found out that my mouse worked with Setpoint (and it even adds the correct mouse picture) is that I added a Logitech keyboard that uses Setpoint and my mouse was detected and fully configurable.

Interesting. Does the cruise function (the buttons above/below the wheel) still work?

I don't believe the sensitivity buttons on that can be reprogrammed to act as "cruise" buttons - though I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

FFS, setpoint v4.6 doesn't support the MX500, and it can't be uninstalled because it "doesn't support this operating system".

From looking around a bit it looks like your MX500 won't work with Setpoint, which doesn't make much sense as there isn't that much difference between it and my MX510. The big thing that says it isn't supported is here,

uberOptions Wiki | Main / uberOptions

Sorry to have gotten your hopes up on your mouse, but less the defaults that Vista allows are good enough looks like you will be looking at a new mouse if you want the added features/buttons.

No worries. It seems the G5 can have its buttons remapped to the cruise functions, and is still available at retail.
