Canon HDV XH G1 being detected but not capturing on Vista 64 Ultimate

It worked extremely well in Windows XP Home. I emailed Canon and they said that right now there is no support for 64 bit Vista with the camera. However, I have 4 GB of RAM and 2GB of Turbo Memory and I wouldn't want it to go to waste.

Is there any way I can email Microsoft (without having to pay $35 dollars) to suggest support for these products or if I were to install Vista Ultimate 32bit, would I lose my ability to use 4GB of RAM and the 2GB of Turbo Memory?

How about if I dual boot it, would there be any complications? Can I use the same CD KEY as neither OS would be on at the same time?

As you have x64 ultimate, you could try running XP (or maybe vista32) under VirtualPC and do the capture there. No need to dual boot.

Then edit under x64 to take advantage of memory.

Interesting. Is it possible to use the firewire port under Virtual PC? I heard there were some issues with that and using USB devices in it.

Have you done so yourself?

well, capture works fine for me on x64, I'm using sony vegas, so I haven't actually done it myself.. you may be right... but i think its worth trying before messing with dual boot and wasting disk space with an extra partition.

You could also try the built in windows movie maker capture, or try running your capture program in XP compatible mode. You might also find an answer on the canon forums.

good luck!

So your Canon XH G1 Camera captures with no issues in Sony Vegas on an 64 bit Operating system?

Yeh, tried all that stuff. Not working. I dual booted Vista 32 and its working perfectly there. I guess I'll use that until Vista 64 supports the XH G1. But i'll still get the virtual pc version to see if that works. Cause it does indeed slow down the workflow having to switch OSes for one task.

Thanks for all your help.
