| Vista Home Premium x64 | Update installation cancelled I get Hewlett Packard Updates on a routine basis. I have owned the computer for about 45 days and have received app 6 updates. They are: HP Security Update Realtek high definition audio driver update Intel matrix storage manager driver update and Windows help and support update Each time I have tried to install them and each time I have received a note in the status column that "installation cancelled"? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Bill Weaver |

| Vista Home Premium x86 - SP2 | Re: Update installation cancelled Personally, I would try using Windows Update, rather than the one that HP supplied. Windows Update knows your hardware (most of the time) and is often less bugged than 3rd party update software. However, this is a matter of personal opinion. If you like the HP Update software, let's troubleshoot this. |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: Update installation cancelled I'm having the same problem with HP installations being canceled. I just recently purchased this laptop with Vista Home Premium x64, but I'm still used to XP. I haven't had the time to get all of the Vista tricks down. I was following the steps recommended above, to change the Privilege Level so that the updater runs as Administrator, but the option is grayed out. I am the only user on this computer and should have full administrative privileges, so I'm not sure why I wouldn't have that option. UAC has been disabled. Anyone have any additional suggestions for a Vista noob? I may stick with the Windows updates like some have suggested, but it bothers me that I don't have the ability to run something as administrator when I *am* the administrator. Thanks! Suzanne |

| Vista Home Premium 64bits | Re: Update installation cancelled Suzanne, You can 'Run this program as an administrator'' with UAC enable or disable. But for permanent change: The checkbox to "Run this program as an administrator" under the Compatibility tab of an .exe's properties is always grayed out if UAC is disable. Re-enabled UAC to have the option back. Michel Last edited by micgel; 06-22-2009 at 10:14 AM.. Reason: HTML code problem |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: Update installation cancelled Thanks! So, I need to enable UAC, check the box to run that one .exe as administrator, then disable again (assuming I don't want all the other annoyances that come along with UAC)? Wow... I knew UAC was supposed to be a pain when it's enabled, but I didn't realize I'd start running into problems if I disabled it. Thanks again, Suzanne |
