short cut problems.

i went round to a friends house and when i booted it up it installed new drivers. All went well then afterwards i had lost nearly all of my programmes, (games , firefox, security, etc). And only some were still there. So i went into my computer my , OS , program files. And i clicked onto wow folder. There is normally lots of different folders but theres only which says "interface", but the game works... . I then put frycry 2 into my computer, load it up but on the sub menu u can not press play, it says 2 install, then if i click install it will say uninstalling farcry 2. I look into my farcry 2 folder and thereis just manul and read me. However its not just games its my anti virus and i cannot reg edit. I have got no idea how it happened but i think its because of the drivers cause he only started since there were unpdated. And say i click onto ventrilo short cut i get "the item 'ventrilo.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer be working properly" and i get the same thing if i open it through search and my ventrilo has disappeard from my all programs but if i click onto unistall or change a problem its there...Plz help some one .

Re: short cut problems.

you should try system restore. it may fix a few problems, but i dont think it will fix them all.. system restore only records system changes and not file changes, so if the files you are refering to are NOT system files, then that is a whole different matter...if it is a driver that has caused the problem, use system restore and that will put it right by rolling back the driver to the previous installed

you say the game asks you to install when you try to open it and that it says you must uninstall the previous version, have a look in your installed programs list and see if its still in there, if it is click on it and then click uninstall... if a box appears saying the file might have been moved or deleted, it should also give you the option to remove the program from the list, as it can no longer be found. if it gives you this option, you should remove it and then try to install the game...
