Vista - Driver doesn't reconize any DVD's anymore

My driver isn't able anymore to read any DVD's or Cd's...But it has worked already for three months, so im really confused what the problem caused. I haven't updated anything...The only thing i've done the last week was the installation of Red alert 3 premium edition. but even after that it could reconize any dvd i've putted in. The driver does make a strange noise if it's trying to read a disk, which ive never encountered before. the dvd isn't the problem because it works on a different computer..

please help, i can't play anything anymore at all

I've tried to use the cdgone merge file, but that doesn't work...

Just for the info it is a TSST TS-L632D slim 8x DVD+/-RW

It is like an Epidemic or something as my laptop just suffered from the same thing a few weeks ago and I managed to botch both my dual boots trying to figure out a positive outcome.

Something tells me that one of the latest MS update has something to do with it because I hardly use the laptop and I don't install anything on it but Windows Updates.

Sorry for not offering any direct help though.
