RX580 driver updates

Hello all...I have tried several times to get my Rx580 drivers to work with my vista operating system however I am having NO luck. The printer works just fine but the scanner won't work at all. I went to the Epson site and dowloaded the indicated drivers but the scanner still won't work. My computer says the scanner is there but it won't operate. Any advise would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: RX580 driver updates

Hi Lisa! Welcome to the Vista Forums.

As for problems with your scanner, hm, let's start from the beginning.

Does the scanner show any problem in the Device Manager?

1) Go to Start Menu > Control Panel
2) Open up "Device Manager"
3) Look for your scanner in the list
4) Check to see if there is a yellow or red exclamation point.

If there is, this means there is a problem. Let's found out what that is. Right click the scanner in Device Manager, and go to Properties.

It should show what is going wrong with your scanner. I've found something going wrong on my system, as seen below, but please disregard the fact that is a network adapter. Let's just look to see what error code it's giving you.

Click the image to open in full size.

There could be a problem with your driver that is installed for the scanner. Let's try downloading this driver, and going through the process to extract the driver files. According to the Epson website, these files should extract to: [i]C:\epson\epson12096[i]

Now, let's try repairing this driver. Let's return to the Properties window under Device Manager (Start Menu > Control Panel > Device Manager > Right click on device > Properties) and select the Drivers tab.

From here, let's select "Update Driver". A window like this should now pop up:

Click the image to open in full size.

Make sure you select the highlighted option.
Now, you should see a window like this. For demonstrative purposes, I've filled in what you should have filled in. (Note: To get the correct path in the box, either type it in, or click "Browse" to find that folder) Make sure the checkbox is also marked!

Click the image to open in full size.

Now click "Next". This should now update the driver you have now with the newest one. Theoretically, this should work. Although when dealing with drivers, often things decide to not work.

Let me know how this goes. If it does not work, that's fine, I've got other options. Once things are up and running, here's how to test whether your scanner is working:

1) Go to the Start Menu, and look for a program named "Windows Photo Gallery". This may be listed on the main list, or under Accessories. If needed, search for "Windows Photo Gallery" in the search bar
2) Once open, go to to File > Import from a Camera or Scanner (As pictured below)

Click the image to open in full size.

3) This should open up a box showing all cameras and scanners connected to the computer. If your printer is installed correctly, the scanner should show, and you will be able to scan from here.

There we go! That took awhile. Hopefully this helps. If not, simply let me know, there is more we can do!

Re: RX580 driver updates

Thanks so much for your reply!!! I did all the steps. There wasn't an exclamation point, there scanner did show in windows forum gallery and I was able to scan from there, however, when I tried to use the scanner to scan a check for direct deposit into my bank the bank's website told me there was no scanner detected in the computer.
I'm so confused....

Thanks again.

Ah, well I'm glad the initial scanning worked for you.

As for the bank's website, that's a really hard one to troubleshoot. There's not alot I can really suggest as I didn't make the website, obviously. (haha)

Let's see, is there any option on that website to do an image upload? If so, you could use Windows Photo Gallery to import & save the image, then upload it to the bank.

Are there any plugins that are needed for the website to detect the scanner? If you are using Internet Explorer 7, you may see something similar to the following:

Click the image to open in full size.

Obviously this is just an example, but you may see a yellow bar that needs to install something.

Or does the bank have a troubleshooting section, where you may be able to send an image to them directly? Or any alternative routes?

I'm sorry I'm useless this time around, but like I said, it's hard to troubleshoot for someone else's site. May I ask the name of the bank? If you're comfortable giving that, I could take a look and see what alternative routes they offer.

Sorry about this! Good luck.
