| Vista Home Premium 32bit [x86] - SP2 | "DriverAgent" Scans - How good? How useful? Scan results, and what to do - 'DriverAgent'. Although I am aware that I have a problem with my nVidia GeForce Go 7300 Graphics Driver, I decided to do a check of the status of all the other drivers in my system, by making use of a tool recommended in this Forum - the free downloaded DriverAgent scan, from Phoenix Technologies at; DriverAgent.com DriverAgent download While I was pleased to a certain extent that the results report included the nVidia Driver and confirmed my suspicions of it, I was surprised by the number of other 'Bad' drivers included in the scan report. These constituted 10 other 'Bad' drivers, or as the report showed....overall, 28% of my system drivers !! [I hate percentage results because they disregard the importance, or critical servicability of the nominated driver, in the overall smooth operation of the system].The full report contained all of the following 'Bad' Drivers.....drivers that "DriverAgent" considered needed updating, upgrading, or further attention. The list is; 1. NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 2. Intel(R) 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C4 3. HID-compliant mouse 4. HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP 5. Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection 6. Intel(R) 82801GBM (ICH7-M/U) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 7. Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC 8. Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB 9. Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CA 10. Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9, and 11. Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8 Apart from the nVidia Driver issue which I am near to fixing, I have no idea if this is a "Good Bad" result, or a "Bad Bad" result in the general scheme of things, as with the exception of the HID-compliant mouse, I have no understanding of the other drives and/or of the critical nature of their functions. I have one main question about "DriverAgent" - Do they download and install generic drivers, or are the drivers sourced through the original manufacturer, with "DriverAgent" acting as the 'host' agent, so to speak? Any recommendations, advice and general systems functions information about these drivers, will be appreciated. And maybe, just maybe, the Sepoys will sleep soundly tonight! |

My advice is dump the program. If you want to update go to your computer Manufacturers site, or if it's home built, go the Mobo Site etc. for updates. For your Graphics card Nvidea is the only place unless you wanted modded drivers. Norm |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit [x86] - SP2 | Re: "DriverAgent" Scans - How good? How useful? None of the drivers listed above should require updating, with the possible exception of your graphics card. The problem with a lot of these Driver "Update" programs, such as Driver Agent and Driver Genius is that they can screw you up by installing incorrect drivers. The rule of thumb should be, "IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT" My advice is dump the program. If you want to update go to your computer Manufacturers site, or if it's home built, go the Mobo Site etc. for updates. Norm G'Day Norm, I kinda expected the answer that I got from your post, but threw it up in the air, basically to confirm my thoughts......and as I thought, it crashed in flames!! The scan was done from my Desktop [checked for viruses, of course], so it was a simple matter of into the bin, and empty.. As far as the nVidia Driver is concerned, to date I have all but disappeared up my own fundimental with the runaround that I have had from Microsoft Windows [1st report in system of Driver problem=stops/restarts], who referred me to nVidia, who then did on-line system scan, before announcing that the problem should go to Acer, who in their usual pathetic way, then sent me back to Microsoft Windows for updates, that they don't do!!!!![Grrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!=primeval scream!] After giving the Sepoy a damned good thrashing and a drink of vinegar, I had a look within this Forum, and am slowly but surely getting my confidence up to speed to do a manual download and install, of an updated and upgraded GeForce Go 7300 Driver from NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com It's all just a matter of psyching myself up, and having a few pin gins before I sally forth into the wide blue yonder, [or mud-hole], to find that which I seek. Thanks Norm, toodle-pip. sassofalco |
