CD Drive E is not recognising some CDs

Hi. I'm new to this so I'm not really sure how it works but I'm going to try and make myself as clear as possible. I have a HP laptop, which I bought a few months ago and when I first tried a CD that was burnt, a message came up that wrote: "Please insert a disc in drive E" and there was a disk in drive E. I brushed it off however because the next CD, which was an original, worked. Yesterday, I tried putting in The Sims 2 but again that message popped up and this CD was an original also. I've tried everything to try and solve this problem but nothing seems to work. Please somebody help me because my holidays are coming up and I cannot have a Sims free holiday. If anyone has any sort of advice that can help me, I would so dearly appreciate it. Thanks in advance

Re: CD Drive E is not recognising some CDs

Hmm, seems we have an uncontrollable abundance of people with really bad CD drives recently... Funnily enough, all with HP pavilion laptops, this could be for 2 reasons, either HP pavilion laptops have really bad CD drives or the same person is posting the same thing over and over again, but signing upto several accounts to get as many answers as they can.

... and their only system specs are Vista Home Premium 32bit???

It would be nice if people would post their hardware details so one could research their problem since they apparently don't know how to.

Re: CD Drive E is not recognising some CDs

Sounds similar to my issues. I have an HP Pavillion a1510y with Vista Home Basic 32-bit. Internal CD/DVD player stopped working many moons ago, so I finally broke down and bought a new one, hoping the issue was the player. The new one does the same thing. Place a CD/DVD in it and it begins to spin and spin, etc. Nothing. Finally got it to recognize a CD with songs, but will not play the songs. I am sure it's an easy fix, just don't know it.
