Add Printer Wizard not finding my printer

I have a HP Color Laser Jet 3600n already installed on the company network. I just got a new gateway with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.

When i go to the printer wizard it locates the 3600 printer on the network. Then it asks me to choose the printer software from a list. or choose a disk. I don't have the disk.
So, looking through this list, it doesn't even have the HP Color Laser Jet 3600 in there. it's got a 3000 and then jumps to 7000.

What am i missing here? Anyone help. Please.

Hector

Re: Add Printer Wizard not finding my printer

hey, thanks for the help. I've already done that. I downloaded, opened and run the program. It finished loading and closed. That's it. I go back to add printer wizard and it's still not there.

Do i need to reboot? and that will fix all my problems?

Re: Add Printer Wizard not finding my printer

hi hector,

First go to the download file, right click, and from the pop-up menu select Run as Administrator, Ok any prompts and follow the install Make a note of any folders that are noted.

if the driver software has worked normally, if you check your printers you should have the device installed.

one other way is that the download created a folder on your laptop containing the drivers, if this is the case you need to tell Vista where this folder is during the wizard, when you run the wizard you should have two options "select from a list", (the option you have been using), and "choose a location on my disk" or similar choose this option and navigate to the folder that the download created. finish the wizard and you should have the printer to use

Re: Add Printer Wizard not finding my printer

hey barman. Alright, i right clicked on the downloaded driver file and ran it as administrator again. It just opens quickly, says done and then closes. I assume that it installed. Then i go to look at the printers my comp recognizes and there is only the other two printers there.

Your second suggestion, moving the downloaded file to a folder say, on my desktop that would be easy to find was a good idea. Did that. Then in the add a printer wizard i went back through and clicked the printer i want to connect to. The list of printers it shows me when i click HP doesn't have the 3600 in there as an option. Then the button to the right says have a disk? When i click there and then go and open my file on the desktop it can't find the driver because it's looking for like an inf. file or something.

Best,

Hector

Re: Add Printer Wizard not finding my printer

In the Printer setup, did you notice if the 3000 said 3000 *series*? If so that is a generic driver that will work.

Also, if you went to the link that Barman provide, there is a brand new driver as of 26 November 2008.....

Re: Add Printer Wizard not finding my printer

Hi hpages

When you run the downloaded file from HP and run it it creates a folder on the root of your system drive (normally c:\),. the folder is "c:\HP CLJ3600 Driver"

This folder does contain the .Inf files that you reported as required with the add a disk option. If you point the system to that folder when you are asked this should then allow the wizard to complete.

As I do not have a printer available here I can't fully test the download but I have checked the .inf file in the folder and it appears to be for the correct printer and operating system.

Hope this helps

Hi Hector,

When you down load the driver it comes down as a zip file. Right click on this file and select run as administrator, This will open a new window (Open File - Security Warning). click on Run, accept the UAC prompt, this will open another new window (Winzip) click on unzip, you will get a message that the files have unzipped successfully, click on OK, close all other windows.

Go back to the Printer wizard. When you get to the drivers window click on have disk, click on Browse, click on Computer, doubleclick Local Disk (C: ), doubleclick HP CLJ3600, Highlight the data hpc3600w.inf, and click on open, click OK on the new Window.

Your Printer is now displayed and you can carry on with the install by clicking on next

Barman, you're a frickin genius. This is what ended up working for me:

Barman Wrote:

I am up and printing now! Thanks!!!!
