Vista - Vista64 and Xp printer sharing

I have a xp desktop as my main computer with a Canon MP730 printer. Just bought a vista laptop. I have setup a network but the vista computer won't recongnise the drivers for the printer. It sees the printer but cant find the driver. I down loaded drivers from Canon still nothing. I have vista64 the drivers on the canon are for vista32, vista32 will not load on my vista64 so I tried xp drivers still nothing.

This is the first network I've set up, so maybe I did something wrong.

Have just done a quick check Cannon are not supporting this particular device in Vista 64 Bit.

Everything else you have done seems correct but without the 64 Bit drivers for the printer you will be unable to use it

You could try contacting Canon to see if they have any plans to provide support but until they do your only way of printing will be the transfer of files to the XP machine for printing

sorry I could not give better news, unfortunately some of the printer manufacturers would appear to prefer to have users upgrade their hardware rather than write the x64 drivers. hopefully canon are in the process of developing the drivers
