Re: Vista 64 bit scanners

I changed OS's and am now running Vista 64 bit and my old reliable HP Scanjet 4200c will not work with this OS. I need a flatbed scanner for scanning documents to fax and color photos. I am only an occasional user for home use.

Re: Vista 64 bit scanners

You'll need to look at HP's website to see if they have drivers for that scanner. To be honest, I doubt they will.

PS, just went to HP's website (Select your operating system*) for your scanner, no deal for vista drivers

As to recommendations, I've always liked Epson, and, they have pretty good driver support. I have two Epson printers (Stylus Photo 2200 & Stylus Photo R800) between 5-7 years old, and an Epson scanner (Perfection 2400) that's about 6 years old, and Epson had Vista 64-bit drivers for them. That's pretty good support to me.

Which ever scanner you get, do your research first. Look for the scanner you want, then check to see if manufacture has 64-bit drivers for the scanner.

Good luck

Re: Vista 64 bit scanners

Thanks...HP, as you say, no longer supports the Scanjet 4200c. I'll look for another scanner.

Re: Vista 64 bit scanners

I went with the Canon LIDE 200. It was an easy PnP install. Thanks for the help.

Re: Vista 64 bit scanners

Guys, don't throw your old scanners away just because there's no 64-bit driver for them. All you might need to do is buy a copy of VueScan from Hamrick Software and use his internal driver. This is what I did to get my ancient Umax 1200S (SCSI, with an "unsupported" Adaptec SCSI adapter, haha) working with 64-bit Ultiimate. Works great. VueScan is an excellent piece of work with all the features you could want for your scanner. Highly recommended.
