| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Installing USB device driver issues My brother and I built a new system up over the Christmas weekend. Since it's a new system I put Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit with SP1 on it. I brought it home and tried installing my printer on it. When it got to the point of connecting the printer I did so and it continued. 20 minutes later it pops up an error message saying " Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it." Uninstalled everything that it did install and tried again with the same results. So I went and bought a new printer thinking my old one wasn't compatible. I bought a Canon Pixma MP620. Brought it home tried installing it and got the same error message. Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. I uninstalled went to Canon's website downloded the new drivers and tried again after uninstalling the scanner and card reader portion which did install. Tried again several times without any luck. I did notice that about 5 minutes after I connect the printer to finish the installation the install program says it can't detect the printer. But it does install the scanner and card reader built into the printer and I can use them just fine. Now I also have a HTC PPC6800 cell phone that I want to sync or use windows mobile device center with. But when I try plugging the phone in it will search for drivers then come back with the same error message of Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. I need help please! Last edited by klangklang73; 01-08-2009 at 09:42 PM.. Reason: I’ve checked the Microsoft Help & Support pages and the hotfix it points me to tells me it’s not for my system. Any idea’s? |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Installing USB device driver issues I had a similar issue with my HP printer /scanner. The scanner was recognised and drivers installed , tho . usually under other devices- but the printer wouldn't install. It was because Print Spooler wasn't running. Even after starting Print Spooler, I needed to uninstall the scanner drivers and restart - in fact, I think I had to unplug, then replug the printer and restart a couple of times. SIW2 |

| Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1 (build 6001) SP1 | Re: Installing USB device driver issues Hi klangklang. I have exactly the same problem trying to install new Canon MP630. Same driver error message, same printer detected message then not detected, same scanner/copier drivers installing OK but not the printer. I've installed from CD and from website ... have tried 34 times!! If you have had success with yours please post back here with how you did it as I'm at a loss. Thanks! |

| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Re: Installing USB device driver issues Well I spent 4 1/2 hrs on the phone with microsoft the other day. I got mine to install. Had to disable windows firewall, windows defender, & my antivirus program. Do a selective startup and disable all of those in it, that way none of its running when you reboot. Then try installing. If it doesn't do it on its own then try a manual install. When it asks which port create 1 as a virtual printer port for USB. Then just show it where your drivers you downloaded are. |
