Hard Drive Not being added Automatically?

I’m having the strange problem of one of my hard drives not being added automattically. My current setup I have a 160GB IDE Maxtor Hard Drive as master on my primary channel, then I have two DVD drives on the secondary channel. I have a 80GB Western Digital on SATA0. I have Vista insalled on the SATA, but Vista does not detect the 160 IDE till I go to Device Manager and Scan for hardware changes. When I do this the drive shows up and works fine. Whenever I restart I lose my drive and have to do the process all over again. The hard drive shows up fine in the BIOS and in Windows XP setup, but in the Vista Setup and in Vista itself will not automattically add the drive. I have tried whiching the IDE Channel Driver to a Generic and I still get the same results. The DVD drives both show up with out any problems. Any ideas?
