Yes they are required. Install the CD that came with your motherboard.

thanks roy but i have installed the disc for my mother board ,i found these when i did a scan of driver agent its a bought program not a free one any suggestions please.

Go into device manager and see if there are any red X next to your devices.
If not then I expect driver agent is just telling you the drivers are outddated.
If this is the case go to the manafacturers website (Not microsoft) and download and install the latest drivers for the products listed.
If your USB devices are working OK and you do not need a small performance increase I would leave it alone and ignore the recommendations of the program.

ok great no red crosses in device manager ,and yes your right this is just a notice to say that the drivers need updating .
thanks for your help roy69.one question for you please i think that i have updated my driver for my gpu hd 3870 but .i followed the steps to download the 8.11 ati catalyst but when i go to the device manager and find the display adapter right click on HD 3870 go to driver and the driver that is there is 8.533 is there somewhere else i can find what driver is loaded for my gpu .

Do ati do a control centre like the nvidea one? There will be driver versions listed there if they do.

Yes they do, it is called the Catalyst Control Center,



what you want to look at is the Catalyst version, which in that shot is 8.12, which is the latest version. The driver will be the Catalyst 9.1 and probably be relesed in the next week (ATI releases a new driver once a month).

When installing/updating ATI drivers there is no need to uninstall the current driver or go into Device Manager, just download and run the exe and the ATI Software Utility will take care of everything; don't even need to restart once the installation is complete.

Oh and regarding those motherboard drivers, if everything is working as it should, leave them alone. Also if you do update them definitely do not uninstall the current driver, just install over the top; that is unless you relish the idea of having to repair Windows after.
