| Vista Business x64 | Install not recognising HDD Hey folks, I'm attempting to install Vista Business x64 on an Asus Rampage II Extreme motherboard which has the ICH10 Intel controller (as well as a JMicron controller). I have a single Spinpoint F1 (1TB) connected to SATA1 and a PATA optical drive on the JMicron controller. Supposedly Vista has the relevant drivers to locate my SATA HDD however it never finds it. I have the Intel controller configured as ACHI in the BIOS and the JMicron as IDE which as far as I am aware is correct. Anyone got any idea why this is not working? Kind Regards, Last edited by roy69; 02-06-2009 at 01:40 AM.. |

| Windows 7 64Bit Beta | Re: Install not recognising HDD Hi, I had this problem last night when installing the Win 7 64Bit beta ontoa Seagate 500Gb SATAII drive. The solution, I used a slower speed DVD ROM drive and it loaded perfectly. I have read on other forums that you can also use slower speed media as well. hth |

| Vista Business x64 | Re: Install not recognising HDD I don't think I have a slower drive. Weird thing is, when I connect the SATA drive to the JMicron controller instead of the Intel controller, Windows correctly identifies the HDD. The JMicron controller is configured as IDE, even when I configure SATA as IDE, Windows still sees nothing. |

| Vista Business x64 | Re: Install not recognising HDD Well I finally got the HDD issue 'resolved'. Rampage II Extreme comes with two IO controllers, JMicron (1xSATA (IDE/ACHI)) & Intel (6xSATA (IDE/ACHI/RAID)). The Intel controller require(d|s) a driver to be slipstreamed into the Windows ISO (either that or a F6/FDD for XP or CD for Vista). However, even using these methods, Windows still failed to locate the drives and sometimes didn't even locate the slipstreamed drivers. This was the case no matter even if SATA on the Intel controller was configured as IDE/ACHI/RAID. The solution, I connected a HDD to the JMicron controller which was able to see the HDD without any extra drivers. Deleted then formatted the drive and got Windows installed on it cleanly. Performed all the usual updates for Windows and installed the Intel Storage Matrix driver. With that installed and Windows updated, booted into the BIOS and changed the SATA configuration on the Intel controller to ACHI and transferred the drive from the JMicron to the Intel controller and added a second drive. Restarted the PC and was successfully greeted by a Windows login screen. |
