Can't install Samsung printer on Vista Home Premium

I can't install Samsung printer CLP-310 on Vista Home. I am consistently getting error message:Operation could not be completed. (error 0x00000002). I have tried both installation CD and direct driver download from Samsung support site. No matter how I install it (through add printer wizard or through setup.exe on the CD or driver package), I am getting the same error. The printer driver is specified for Vista. So it should work. Can anyone help please?

Insert your Cd and cancel the Wizard. Open Explore and right click on the Setup.exe file and Run as Administrator.

Hope this helps, if not, comeback to tell us what happens and we'll go from there.

Hopefully more savvy guys will lend a quicker hand.

I've just tried your suggestion but it's still giving me the same error message. Thanks for your help anyway.

Hello auderek. I will give my two cents in here (or maybe one sent. We will find out!)

Ok, so your BCC: 0x2 is a DEVICE_QUEUE_NOT_BUSY. Not entirely sure what that means, as no more info was offered other than it is very rare. :/

Try this: Plug in the printer and wait. What does Vista do? I hope it senses it, and should even install its own drivers hopefully. (That happens a lot)

No matter what happens afterward, go open up Device Manager, and see if it is registered there. If so, great! If not, back to square one.

If it is, right click to properties. If it says it works, try printing. If that works, problem solved. If not, then go to the drivers tab and try installing the driver that way.

We will get to the rest if it happens. Hope this helps out!

I have also tried your suggestion. After I plug in the printer, Vista recognizes it and opens a windows that lets me select the driver, which identifies as "Samsung CLP-310 series". This is the right driver. So I select it and Vista starts installing the driver. Then after awhile, an error message appears that says, "Found New Hardware - Samsung CLP-310 Series. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Samsung CLP-310 Series. The system cannot find the file specified." It sounds like it's the problem with the file or driver but the driver file is legit coz it's from Samsung's support site and I don't hear any others having install problem with their Samsung printer. It seems like I am one of the few unlucky ones. Can somebody please expain what the problem is here?!

Well...

Can you print after you plug it in? Try just plugging it in, and then trying to print from it.

It won't print because there is no driver successfully installed and it is not recognized as a printer. It was only recognized as "Other Device" under Device Manager.

The driver is version 3.04.07 directly downloaded from Samsung support site.

OK, If you have installed or appeared to installed the drivers, then there should be a samsung folder at C:\Windows\System32\Samsung which contains the .inf files.

If you right click on the device in device manager and select 'update driver software' and point to c:\Windows\System32\Samsung it hopefully should pick up the driver .inf files. There might be 2 folders within the samsung folder, if so try pointing to each of them

I agree. Try that. You could do the same thing from the Disk as well. Meaning do the update drivers and select from CD instead of folder.

I'm having the same issue installing a Samsung CLP-510N. Downloaded the drivers, run the install, and while the progress bar is going, it errors out. I don't remember the exact error but it mentions it cannot proceed because of an NT 4.0 policy. First of all, what policy? Second of all, where do I change that policy?

I've tried the network install portion, and then the USB. The USB install had Windows locate the printer fine and point to the correct drivers but as it installed, errored out again.

Thanks for the info...

I am still having the same installation problem as before. Still couldn't install the printer. Samsung did have a newer version of the driver but that still didn't work on my Vista. I am just waiting for Samsung to come up with a correct driver.

Hi Auderek,

Try disabling UAC install the printer re-enable UAC;
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/48893-user-account-control-uac.html?ltr=U

I hope this helps

Pooch

I tried that, too. Still nothing. I was able to immediately install the windows provided driver for the CLP-550 but it told me it's wrong driver and may not work.

After hours of research, it appears that the drivers for the CLP-510 provided by Microsoft and Samsung are "kernel-mode" drivers and there is some policy within Vista x64 preventing installation of those drivers. I understand that Vista created 30% more policies than XP in attempts to stop the BSOD's. I got that information from Windows users forums on Microsoft.com and the increase is based on end-user submissions (reporting) of programs that stop responding.

I can't find where to possibly disable the policy blocking the kernel-mode drivers. I wonder if disabling it will allow me to install the existing driver but will re-enabling it still allow me to print? I don't know enough about Windows policies to do that. Any thoughts?
