64bit driver for magicolor 2300DL

I am little bit relaxed to know from the old posts that I will be able to use printer magicolor 2300DL from my laptop with vista 64 bit. In this regard I am looking for little more elaborated details from Ken Diego. Let me explain my situation first.

We have an office computer which has XP on it. Our printer magicolor 2300DL is connected to the office computer through USB cable. We have 4 5 other computers connected to that computer through the ethernet network. Now I am trying to print from my computer on that printer.

Please suggest me the steps I need to take in order to successfully add the printer to my computer.

Thanking you very much in advance and looking forward to getting the step by step guidelines in this regard.

Re: 64bit driver for magicolor 2300DL

Hello Batu and welcome to the forums.

Ok so let me just get this straight. Your printer is hooked into your office computer (XP) which is on the same small network as the other 4-5 computers in the office. Correct?

Luckily, this is fairly simple. On all the computers, go into the network and sharing center, and make sure that all have network discovery, file sharing, and printer sharing turned on. Then you should be able to select view other computers and devices on network. Let it load, and there should be all the computers in the office. If there is no printer, then thats ok, we will hook that up in a sec.

Printer:
Go into control panel, printers. Add new printer. The wizard should pop up. Select network printer. If the printer isn't found, no worries, select "The printer I want isn't listed" Then just type in the address of the printer. It should be similar to this \\ComputerName\PrinterName. To check these, go to the computer with the printer on it, and (XP) press [windows key]+pause/break. This will bring up the system window. This will tell you the computer name, take note of it. Then go into control panels -> printer (still on the printer computer) and select the printer. Open the properties, and select sharing. Set up all that, including name, and take note of that. Then go back to the other computers and type in the names and hit next. It should find it, and you are set.

Let us know if you need more help.

Hi lordbob75,

Thanks a lot for your nice post. But the problem is now I am using a new computer that runs vista 64. So How do I hook up my new computer with Vista 64 to the printer. I will really appreciate your input on it.

Re: 64bit driver for magicolor 2300DL

Same way Batu. I am runnign x64 and am hooked into my dad's printer the same way I just described. Should work just fine. Since the printer is running off the other computer, none of the others need the drivers.

Re: 64bit driver for magicolor 2300DL

Thanks again Lordbob. Unfortunately when I try the way you suggested, the following message pops up. "The server for the magicolorDL printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search the proper driver click OK. Therwise click canceal and contact your network administrator" I am surprised how that worked for you. Please help me with the right ideas please!

Hmmm... Ok. You may need to install a special driver on the printer computer. I forget what it is though...

Re: 64bit driver for magicolor 2300DL

Ok I think this is it. There is some compatibility issue on printer sharing between XP and Vista (go figure) and I think this is the one I used.

Link Layer Topology Discovery

Hope that works.

Re: 64bit driver for magicolor 2300DL

Hi Lordbob,

Thanks for your quick responses. Actually I am able to discover the common computer connected to the printer from my laptop with vista 64. I can even reach up to the printer. The only thing I can not do is to add the printer. While doing that it asks for a new driver.

Thanks again for your time. I kindly urge everybody else in the forum to provide me with the guidelines so that I can use the printer from my computer.
